Do I need to store my tincture in glass?

"Do I need to store my tinctures in glass?"

In the past herbalists did use glass to store their tinctures because that was the only material that was available to them. Then when plastics came into use and were less stable many people decided to store their tinctures in glass to avoid contamination from the plastic.

Things have moved on and now we have 'leach proof' plastics that don't degrade to the same extent. That said some people don't agree with using plastics to store their herbs and they prefer to store everything in glass.

It is therefore up to you what you prefer.

Whether you're storing your tincture in glass or plastic it's usually kept in a colour bottle to avoid the biochemicals being broken down by sunlight. You can also achieve this by keeping your tinctures in a cupboad.
